To Qualify for a NILS loan you need to be on a low income e.g. receiving a Centrelink payment, holder of a Health Care card or have a low household income (under $45000 PA). Exceptional circumstances can be considered.
Loans can be up to a maximum of $1200 and cannot be for more than one item in total. Loans need to be repaid over a period of 12-18 months. Repayment plans are tailored to suit individual circumstances.
NILS cannot be used for the repayment of current bills or debts and cannot be paid to the applicant directly. They also cannot be used for bond or rent money, rent arrears or living expenses.

Loans will only be considered for essential items (1 item per application) Items may include White-goods, New furniture items, TV, Computer, medical expense, car tyres.
Payments of Bills including: car registration, debt consolidation, entertainment items, vehicle repairs, rent arrears, rental bond monies are not eligible.
Applicants must be living in the 4205 or 4207 postal districts for a period of not less than 3 months. Rooming accommodation applicants will need to provide a statutory declaration stating their length of tenancy and the lodgings they pay signed in the presence of a Justice of the Peace (JP).
